Recreate Carrie Bradshaw’s Runway Hair: Orlando Pita’s Signature Voluminous Blowout

Remember that scene from Sex and the City where Carrie Bradshaw falls on the runway? Beyond her bejewelled panties—custom-made by Broadway costume designer William Ivey Long—and the blue Dolce & Gabbana trench coat, there was the hairstyle.

That unforgettable voluminous blowout was created by none other than Orlando Pita, one of the most legendary hairstylists in the fashion world. At the time, Sarah Jessica Parker met Orlando backstage at the Versace show during Fashion Week, where he was doing the hair. She asked him if they could create a runway look for the episode — and that’s how the moment was born.

Fast forward to today, and we had the chance to speak with Orlando Pita, who shared exactly how to recreate Carrie’s runway blowout at home.

How to get that same hairstyle, straight from Orlando Pita- using Orlando Pita Play products:

  1. Apply Atmos-Shield to your hair to protect it from heat.
  2. Blow dry using a round ceramic brush to build volume and smoothness.
  3. Mist Body-Breakthrough Volume Boosting spray to create volume and help set the curls.
  4. Use a two-inch curling iron to create big rolls all over the head.
  5. Once the rollers are out, brush the hair thoroughly to blend the waves.
  6. Go back to the roots. Starting from the bottom on the  back or front, tease the first four inches of hair all over the head for that full, dramatic finish.
  7. Finish with hair spray and argan oil.
